From 1st October 2024, additional information is required to process applications for commercial permits.
D&S IFCA issues permits for different fishing activities which include:
- Mobile Fishing
- Netting
- Potting
- Diving (for defined shellfish)
Different application forms are used so applicants can give us the correct details which allow us to process a permit relating to the activity to be undertaken. D&S IFCA typically processes applications for a permit within seven working days. However, without the correct information that is required, the process will take longer, and we may not be able to issue a permit.
The New Requirement for Additional Information
From 1st October 2024, for commercial permit applications (excluding a Commercial Netting Permit for a non-powered vessel), D&S IFCA will require copies of a Fishing Licence and a Certificate of Registry for the vessel named on the application form. The information is required for new applications and if an existing permit holder intends to renew a permit when it expires.
During the application process, you will be asked to email copies of any relevant documents to:
permits@devonandsevernifca.gov.uk.
The email must contain a copy of the relevant documents attached either as a scan or as a good quality photo of each page. If applicants prefer, there is the option to post copies of any relevant document to us.

- PLEASE DO NOT POST ORIGINALS
Whilst D&S IFCA can obtain the additional information from the Marine Management Organisation (MMO), this may take up to 28 days, which delays processing the applications and the issue of a permit. D&S IFCA protects personal data used to process permit applications. D&S IFCA has a privacy policy which is available to read on D&S IFCA’s website.
